A new thread
Introducing Barcheston, our first embroidered fabric, inspired by a beautiful piece of English needlework thought to date from the late eighteenth century. Worked in silk on fine cotton, the original may once have formed part of a dress or decorative apron.
The flowers and foliage are particularly striking – some familiar garden and wildflowers, others more impressionistic, tumbling naturally across the fabric. We initially explored translating the design into print, as with many of our historic textiles, but felt that embroidery offered a more natural way to preserve its character and honour the skill of its maker.

While pattern is at the heart of our collection, our plains are an equally thoughtful part of the story, hand-printed in small batches to create a painterly surface that brings the weave and character of the cloth to the fore, their colours precisely matched to complement our designs.
Available in a palette of 12 carefully chosen shades, these versatile linens can be used on their own or as an accent, for upholstery, curtains, trims, pipings or linings. They have been designed to work alongside our patterns or stand confidently on their own.
