Our new plains are printed by hand using only a squeegee, or blade. Colour is poured across the width of the linen and then, rather like icing a cake, the blade is pulled by two skilled printers over the surface of the fabric applying an even layer of colour as they walk backwards along each side of the print table..
The beauty of this technique is that the blade scrapes excess colour from the raised threads of the weave, emphasising the natural texture of the linen – quite unlike dyed cloth which has a flatter, more even appearance.
A useful addition to the collection, the printed plains can be used for piping and trimming our patterns as well as plain coloured linens in their own right. The full coverage of colour also helps to increase the strength of the linen as it bonds the fibres making it a very good upholstery option.
Usually printed to order, we’re able to print any colour within the collection to create a perfectly matched coordinating plain.
